Sales Pitch
Freakish alien like measurements with unlimited offensive potential if his body can hold up.
Background
There's a good chance that you heard about the massive freshman playing at the University of Oregon this year. Bol Bol has been the talk of the college basketball world, with a unique combination of freakish size and elite scoring ability. The son of former NBA great Manute Bol, the Oregon Duck product showed more than enough promise in his only year at Eugene. A number of health concerns will raise some serious questions that need answers during the Draft Process, but if Bol Bol can convince NBA teams that he has a clean bill of health, someone is going to take a gamble on his potential dominant offensive ability.

Positives

ATHLETICISM

  • Incredibly fluid for a player of his tantalizing size. Runs the floor like a 7-foot deer. Shows soft hands and the ability to take control of any lob thrown his way.

OFFENSIVE VERSATILITY

  • Terrific spot up shooter despite his unorthodox shooting form. Shot better than 50% from 3 this year. Elite size and high release allows him to shoot easily over contesting defenders. Still developing post arsenal

DEFENSIVE POTENTIAL

  • A shot altering monster. Does a great job of closing out on perimeter shots as well. More mobile when defending the post than you would believe.
Negatives

FRAME

  • Extremely thin framed much like his father. Doesn't muscle up or want to bang too often in the paint. Lack of strength makes him float around on the perimeter.

SHOT SELECTION

  • Settles for shots too often. Falls in love with the deep ball and sitting around on the perimeter. Needs to learn how to dominate inside given his size.

EFFORT

  • Questions about his work ethic. Has flashes of showing an "alpha-like" mentality inside but then it disappears for an extended period of time. Needs some nastiness.
Overall
There isn't going to be a more "Boom or bust" prospect than Bol Bol of Oregon in this years draft class. He will have one of the biggest ranges in terms of his draft stock of any prospect. The medical evaluation process will be a make or break for Bol Bol as teams will want to get some clarity on a history of lower body injuries. It's been reported that since suffering a lower-body injury that ended his season early, Bol Bol has lost up to 30 pounds. On talent alone, Bol Bol is a lottery pick in this class, but a shaky background could see him experience a potential draft day slide. He's one of the top storylines to follow on draft night.
