OUTSIDE SHOOTING

  • Might scare some off because of his funky mechanics from outside, but he's produced at a consistent level. Can hurt you coming off of screens or from deep. Averaged 80% from the line during his four-year career at TCU. Ranked in the 91st percentile (via Synergy) in Spot Up offense. 

FEEL FOR THE GAME

  • Outstanding overall feel for the game. Plays the game with a great pace and always seems under control. Not incredibly explosive but he lulls defenders to sleep and is slippery in and out of his dribble. 

DEFENSIVE POTENTIAL

  • Shows great overall fundamentals when it comes to the defensive side of the ball. Good timing and reaction out of his stance. Disruptive in passing lanes and does a good job reading opposing offenses.

EXPLOSIVENESS

  • Lacks a blowby gear or quick first step that you'd look for. Not the most athletic when it comes to leaping ability. He can finish around the rim, but his underwhelming length leaves question marks about his ability at the next level.

BALL HANDLING

  • Needs to tighten up his handles, especially with his lack of explosiveness, to enjoy success at the NBA level as a ball handler. Has plenty of room to grow.

Another upperclassman in this draft class that will be overlooked because of his "upside" but TCU guard Desmond Bane offers immediate contributing potential. Bane makes his living with his basketball IQ. He carries himself like a seasoned veteran and offers serious potential as a 3-and-D weapon early in his career. While Bane won't wow you with his explosiveness, he does a phenomenal job of playing the game at his pace and is a high basketball IQ player. Don't be surprised if a Playoff-caliber team is clawing their way to add a piece like Bane to their rotation.
